Career Counselling: A way to bright future

Are you happy with your degree you are studying? Are you enjoying your job in that field? Is it of your choice? NO? I know maximum answers here are NO. This is because of lack of proper career counselling at primary school, secondary and higher secondary schools and then university. I’ve also been through the same situation where I had to study the subjects I hate the most.

I’ll share my own story about why I feel so. When I was in 8th standard I didn’t want to study biology in 9th standard because I didn’t want to become a doctor as doctors have to cut the stitch (I am scared of blood). But no one told me that there are other fields too where you don’t have to deal with blood, operations and surgeries. Still I studied biology in 9th standard as my teachers pressured me to do so.

When i had to go to college i wanted to apply for ICS but my brother said,”93% marks lay k ICS kon krta hai? Fsc hi karo.” so I applied for fsc pre-engineering. I love maths so I decided I’ll do BS maths but unfortunately I went for BS Software Engineering. I don’t want to do a job in my field. This all happened because neither my parents knew about counselling (they are not educated) nor my school had this section.

I strongly believe we need career counselling at every institution from the very beginning of our lives.

Problem Statement:

“Due to lack of proper counselling many of us have to select wrong field and then we can neither showcase our actual skills nor serve our nation by heart”

I don’t have a proper platform as a solution to this problem but I do guide my younger siblings, cousins, neighbours, friends and parents.

Only benefit I get from this is that after proper career counselling a true talent comes on the market. When students explore their skill set and get a proper degree in that specific field then they can compete with the market and outer world easily and proudly. Also by doing this I feel satisfied that I am not letting others repeat the mistakes I made.

High time to wake up and think differently to fill all gaps.

Thank you so much :)
